Reconsideration of the quality evaluation criteria of geomagnetic sudden impulse phenomena (ssc and si)

Kenji MORINAGA & Takashi OHKAWA

Abstract

The generation mechanisms of ssc (storm sudden commencement) and si (sudden impulse) geomagnetic phenomena are the same. However, the quality criterions for expressing the intelligibility of the phenomenon were different. In order to standardize the quality criterions for ssc and si, we investigated statistically the relationship between the amplitude and the quality of each phenomenon. Based on the results, we introduced the new quality criterions of ssc and si determined by amplitude.
